GET Celebrates its 50th Anniversary
The story of GET is quite remarkable. Over a period of 50 years GET Chairman, John Joseph, has taken a humble electrical shop into one of the countrys most successful electrical public companies designing, manufacturing and distributing its products internationally.
1956 saw the birth of "Great Eastern Trading Co" situated in a small retain unit close to the City of London in Great Eastern Street, E1.The business was started by John Joseph and his father and a large bank loan!
"My motto in those days was to give our customers value in quality, value in prices and value in service, three values that I have kept throughout the last 50 years." John Joseph explains:"Our vision is still the same today to offer high quality products at affordable prices.Design innovation and ease of installation have been two key features that we introduced many years ago and remain priorities today.
In 1995 GET was floated on the London Stock Exchange with the sole intention of using the funds to further develop the company and its product range and to introduce an in-house design and development team, in order to bring to market innovative and easy to use ranges of top quality electrical products at keen prices, as well as to develop GET's own brands.
In 1997 GET acquired Rapitest a company specifically dealing in testing equipment for the trade and DIY. In 2000 GET acquired Tower Manufacturing, a highly respected brand in the electrical industry manufacturing cable clips and fixings.GET is always on the lookout for companies to acquire and to encompass them into the GET portfolio.
GET today employs some 300 people between its Head Office at Potters Bar, its design and quality control centres and 500,000 square foot National Operations Centre in West Bromwich and its satellite distributions centres. 40,000 pallet positions and a state of the art computerised system ensure a swift service to satisfy customers growing needs. 600 tonnes of product is moved every day.
Over the last ten years GET has more than doubled its turnover and can boast the number one logistics capacity in the industry.GET's strategy has always been to concentrate on innovation by designing high quality products which have the installer in mind, ensuring that every GET product is not only value for money but saves time and money on installation.GET's design, innovation and speed of bringing products to market, ensures they will continue to grown market share.This year GET is offering 4,000 products across its GET Air, GET Light, GET Connect and new GET Smart ranges, all distinctly displayed in the 2006 Special 50th Anniversary Product Catalogue.
2006 has seen the introduction of a brand new range of state of the art, affordable, CCTV and Home Automation products, which have already taken the market by storm.GET also launched a secure and easy to use on-line ordering and stock availability system in 2006 which will be of great assistance to its 3,000+ customers.
